OHESP
The Government of Ontario provides a grant/rebate program for homeowners. We have outlined the basic information for you here.
Visit their website for all of the details.
How does it work?
You hire a certified Energy Auditor. You can find on enear you on the OHESP website. They will provide you with an asessment for your home. (The government gives you back $150 for the audit.) They will also explain what rebates will be available to you for the work you may wish to do.
You then do any improvements you like. When you are done the Energy Auditor comes back to review your improvements. They will then complete the paper work so you can receive your rebate.
This chart outlines what you are eligible for based on the work you do. You can determine in advance, how much you are likely to receive.
Here is an example of what homeowners can receive:
The Smith's add cellulose to the above ground walls of their 1200 sq. ft. 1950's bungalow. The cost to do so is $2900.
They are eligible to receive $1875 from the Provincial program. That covers more than half of the cost of the install and they are likely to save the remaining $1025 over their second or third season of heating bills.
If the Smith's also upraded their attic insulation to R-50 they would receive $750 in rebates. That covers all but $250 of the total cost to insulate.
